About Us

A few years ago we watched a documentary that changed the way we thought about our diets. Not that we were terribly unhealthy, my husband and i. But, we both wanted to be the best that we could be, because at that time I was pregnant with our first child. After watching the movie, Forks Over Knives, we started to implement some serious changes into our life.

Once we found that it was very difficult to actually find wholesome meals that actually tasted like what we had become so accustomed to in our daily lives. Where do we find snacks? What about if we are traveling? Can we still camp with this diet? What gives?

So, thats when i started really experimenting and began an epic journey to try and change our entire world by changing our diets. My husband is in the Army, and he has special requirements when looking at caloric intake! The man runs miles a day! I was currently pregnant, and needed special attention too. I found the change difficult, and had little to look to for help. So, i started a binder. And i filled that binder with many recipes that I either found or made from scratch. After a while, friends and family started asking me where I had come up with my recipes and I would send them a snippet of my binder pages. But then I thought, why not just send them a link to a blog? So, thats where this blog comes in. I want to share, with as many people as possible, the wonderful, healthy foods that I have found for my family. Trust me, if we hate it, you’ll not find it on Health Nut Avenue. Only the best!

I do try very hard to keep our meals as low in sodium, sugar, and oil as possible, while always keeping things as close to their whole state as possible. However, there are times in my busy life when I have to make things quickly, and a canned item may need to be subbed. I like using dehydrated herbs / spices when I can, because I don’t have time to keep getting new stuff weekly.

Welcome to my family, and my kitchen. All are welcome here, no judgements and no complaints. We keep things light and friendly here! If you want to sub in chicken broth instead of veggie broth, that’s your choice (though, I cannot speak to how it will taste!). I will try to give as many substitutions as possible and leave it up to you to enjoy. This is your health, and your life. I’m just here to make it easier for you!
